Specialist Programs

Physical Education

Students at Portland Bay School participate in weekly Physical
Education classes. All students are encouraged to participate in
activities to the best of their ability.

Students in the Early Years participate in a program designed to improve balance, coordination and gross motor skills. Students in the Middle Years work on the development and consolidation of fundamental motor skills including throwing, catching, striking and kicking.  Physical Education classes for students in the Later Years focus more on increased team play, motor skill refinement and an emphasis on personal physical fitness. Portland Bay School also participates in inter school sports carnivals which involves athletic and tabloid sports activities, netball carnivals and the annual Jump Rope for Heart.  All students have the opportunity to participate in weekly Swimming program with a qualified swimming instructor at the local YMCA. Bicycle Education is also an important component of our Physical Education program. Our students have the opportunity to challenge themselves physically by also participating in a number of Outdoor Education activities and camps, horse riding in terms 1, 2 and 4 and Sailing in terms 1 and 4. Portland Bay School is a member school of the Blackwood Education Centre, our students have the opportunity to participate in the annual class camp at Blackwood. Art
