The programs in the senior/transition area of the school focus on providing older students in the school with the appropriate
knowledge and skills in order to encourage and enhance their
independence in the community after they leave school.
The academic program centres around developing and increasing literacy, numeracy, social, behavioural and communication skills
In 2011 our senior students began access classes at the Portland
Secondary College in high interest areas such as woodwork,
metalwork, home economics and maths.
We have a Work Experience coordinator who liaises with businesses in the community to enable students to attend work experience.
Students access work experience from the age of 14 and 9 months, these students access the program one day a week.
We also encourage students to participate in volunteering within the community.
Possible post school options are looked at on an individual basis in the students last year at Portland Bay School.
Students have the opportunity to participate in the following
- Home Economics – Budgeting, planning and cooking meals.
- Bike education
- Work Experience
- Outdoor education
- Classes at Portland Secondary College
